Dorothea Dix is a 308-acre park, the largest city park in Raleigh. It was named for Dorothea Lynde Dix, an American activist for people with mental illness. Initially it was Dorothea Dix Hospital and is currently home to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. It has historic architecture and beautiful landscapes. The sunflowers, which have been photographed with at least half the population of Raleigh, will be harvested to create biodiesel fuel.
